Riau Islands Province will develop 1000 hectares of paddy fields

 
 
Batam (ANTARA News) - Riau Islands Province will develop 1000 hectares of paddy fields in leading Indonesian islands in the archipelago.
     
"It will develop 1,000 ha of paddy fields in the outer islands of Riau Islands Province on the border," said Governor Muhammad Sani in the Riau Islands of Batam, on Tuesday.
     
Results rice fields, he said, consumption is expected to meet residents in the Riau Islands.
     
He said all this, private consumption needs are supplied from other regions of Riau Islands in Indonesia and is imported from neighboring countries.
     
Field development costs are budgeted by the Regional Budget Riau Islands 2011 at 5 billion.
     
"The development of rice farming started this year," he said.
     
Development of paddy fields in front of the island is also expected to empower the islands on the border so as not empty.
     
Earlier, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked the government to make plans Riau Islands special agricultural land clearing for agricultural products.
     
The government, he said, plans to make the Province as a major supplier of other agricultural products to Singapore.
     
The President also commissioned a number of researchers from the Bogor Institute of Agriculture to examine the types of agricultural products are suitable to be developed in the Riau Islands and then exported to Singapore.
     
"There are so many thousand tons are needed in Singapore for vegetables, fruits, and so on. Why do not we supply from this place is only 45 minutes (to Singapore)," the president said at the time.
