President: Riau Islands Will Be the New Economic Center

Tanjungpinang (AFP) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono optimistic Province will become the new economic center, so they can compete with Singapore.

"Where we satellites this is Singapore. We will be` center `new economy," Yudhoyono said when opening a working meeting at the airport Raja Haji Fisabillillah, Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, on Sunday.

The President explained, to reach that target, all parties must work hard to build the Riau Islands.

Development must accommodate local interests, namely to increase the local economy. In addition, national interests must also be met, in the form of accelerating national economic growth.

The President also requested the development of Riau Islands attention to four main objectives, namely economic growth, employment growth, poverty reduction, and environment maintenance.

"In time it will be a center that is not inferior to Singapore," the president said.

The meeting was held after President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Sunday morning, collecting a number of ministers and some officials at the center Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands.

The ministers arrived at the airport Raja Haji Fisabilillah, Tajungpinang, at around 08.30 pm. They arrived at the airport in turn.

The ministers include Environment Minister Mohammad Gusti Hatta, Minister of Industry, MS Hidayat, Minister of Forestry Zulkifli Hasan, Transportation Minister Freddy Numberi, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Fadel Muhammad, head of the Investment Coordinating Board Gita Wirjawan.

In addition, there is also the Minister of Agriculture Suswono and Chairman of the National Economic Committee Chaerul Cape who arrived in Tanjungpinang using a special jet.

Previously, a number of ministers were in Tanjungpinang to accompany the president, including Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare Agung Laksono, Coordinating Minister Hatta Rajasa, Minister of Culture and Tourism Jero Wacik, Defense Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, and State Secretary Sudi Silalahi.

After arriving at the airport, the minister of a short break in one conference room. At around 09:00 pm, they were together toward the other room to start the meeting.
